last Friday before the Louvre I escaped to visit a fabric store I've been wanting to get to for a while.
de Gilles Tissu is hidden behind a tiny unassuming storefront in the 11th. A few rolls of fabrics that seem to have wandered out to the sidewalk for a coffee break are pretty much the only hint of what lays inside.
Inside, its two floors are full to the brim with vintage kimono fabrics, roll upon roll of vintage and modern decor fabric, bookcases of fantastical trims, and boxes of ribbons.
it's not the place to go with a specific fabric in mind, it's the place to go to find a treasure in a haystack! i didn't get anything while i was there but the prices seem 'correct' (as the French say) for Paris. and the slightly cranky staff were just as Parisian which, truly, is just a part of the experience of this city!
